A more useful four-part market-cap lens
SEBI defines ranks 1–100 as large cap, 101–250 as mid cap, and rank 251 onward as small cap. That official three-part definition remains unchanged.
For analysis, Trezofin splits the official small-cap universe in two: ranks 251–500 remain small cap, while rank 501 onward is labelled micro cap. This is a Trezofin analytical convention—not an additional SEBI category.

“Small cap” was hiding a very long tail
Ranks 251 and 5,000+ do not have comparable liquidity, institutional coverage or portfolio capacity. The micro-cap label makes the top-500 comparison cleaner while preserving the official SEBI classification in regulatory contexts.
